The elliptical trainer is one of the best devices not only for the gym but also for home use. During workouts, 90% of our body is engaged in movement. Exercises on the elliptical replace those on the treadmill or stationary bike. An additional advantage is that the action of the elliptical is much gentler on the joints.
Ellipticals, also known as elliptical trainers, can be categorized into:
- Ellipticals with manual control
- Computer-controlled ellipticals (with a display)
Ellipticals can be classified based on the braking system (resistance):
- Friction – a mechanism used in spinning bikes.
- Belt – a belt wraps around the flywheel and creates resistance by clamping onto the wheel (louder operation).
- Magnetic – operates on the principle of bringing the magnet closer or farther (quiet operation).
- Inductive – operates by increasing the voltage on the coil, causing an increase in the magnetic field in which the flywheel moves (quiet operation).
Exercise on the elliptical is much more efficient than on other devices! Exercise on the elliptical is smooth and the most joint-friendly! Exercise on the elliptical is relaxing! Elliptical exercises strengthen the buttocks, thighs, calves, and other muscles, including the spine!
